If you have an elderly loved one who is taking a lot of different senior medicine, then it is most likely that elderly person needs a little help in keeping on schedule with these medicines. Many seniors without the aid of their family intervening when it comes to medicines, especially strong pain killers. Some elderly people have been known to accidentally overdose due to not remembering whether they already took a certain medicine or not. Monitoring the intake of senior medicine is a task that has to be tended to every day. If your family doesn't have the mans to make sure that someone is there every day with that elderly person, then the best bet is to hire someone for that job. There are many reputable home health care agencies that will come out to just make sure your loved one has taken their medicine on schedule. There will be also times that an elderly person will forget to take any medicine. The sad part bout this is that some of those forgotten medicines re important to their well being. Senior medicine like heart and blood pressure medications are important to their survival. A lot of older people with heart trouble have to take potassium in order for their heart to function properly. Many doctors are in internship for senior medicine if they are specializing in geriatric care. This is a wonderful internship in that the way medicine affects older people is a lot different sometimes than it acts in those that are younger. Doctors are learning more and more everyday at the effects of medicines on seniors. If your elderly loved one is in a nursing home or some other long term care facility, then you are going to need to stay on top of their nursing care when it comes to medicines. Always ask what medicines they are on and how often they have to have it. This will help a lot when you start noticing that your loved one is always in a deep sleep when you visit, no matter what time of day you arrive. A lot of older folks in nursing homes sleep what is left of their lives away due to being over medicated, make sure that you always know what and hen your loved is being given. Ask to see their chart. You have the right. Many folks lives could be saved and improved greatly in this way.
